Boat Insurance

Boat Insurance

Boating is a cherished pastime, whether fishing, skiing, or simply enjoying the ocean views. Vessels can be a liability as well, one not covered by your homeowner’s policy. Don’t float bare. Our boat insurance program not only covers liability associated with operating watercraft (running into other boats, swimmers, divers), but also your investment (hull, motors, equipment, trailers). As an independent insurance agency, we offer many companies that specialize in boat insurance and are familiar with the strengths of each.

Boat insurance premiums that won’t drown your fun.

With few exceptions, homeowners insurance will not protect your boat, jet ski, or associated liability. Most policies limit coverage to watercraft below twenty-five horsepower, while others exclude it altogether. If you or anyone piloting your boat injures someone while afloat, collide with another vessel, or run over a swimmer, your homeowners policy likely offers zero coverage.

Our boat insurance program offers the protection you need. We offer thorough coverage at reasonable prices. Jet ski insurance is a part of this program as well. Personal watercraft (PWC) are often overlooked, but represent a significant liability to their owners when considering the speeds at which they travel and the number of injuries they cause.

Coverage for any watercraft is similar to insuring a vehicle. Liability insurance is required, but physical damage to the boat itself (hull) may be added, along with motors, attached equipment, accessories, and even the trailer.

Where to Begin

  1. Research whether your homeowners policy offers any protection for boating. Ask your insurance agent. The answer is usually a strong No, with exceptions being tiny vessels and boats with motors less than 25 HP. However, if you fall within that class, it is valuable information.
  2. Approximate the value of your hull. Boats are notorious for dropping value after a few years, and there is no need to over-insure.
  3. Approximate the value of your motor(s).
  4. Add in the value of any other attached equipment such as fish finders, GPS systems, radar, custom canvas, etc. For jet ski insurance, don’t forget cost of modifications you’ve performed.
  5. Complete a boat insurance quote request to begin the process.
