Before mobile phones and tablets, checks had to be cashed in person or by mail. Now, mobile check deposits allows you to deposit your checks from anywhere, so long as your mobile device has Internet or cellular service. Most banks provide mobile apps to make the process easier, and First Bank* is no exception. First Bank provides mobile check deposits** for businesses and individuals so that you can deposit a check from anywhere, safely and securely.

How Mobile Check Deposits Work

Mobile check deposit use digital technology to deposit money into your account. All you need is a smartphone or tablet with a good camera. Here’s how it works:

Sign Checks and Find a Flat Surface

Even with digital deposits, the back of a check needs to be signed by the account holder. For added security, you can also include a restricted endorsement, such as, “For Mobile Deposit Only” underneath your signature.

Next, find a flat, well-lit surface. This will help you get the best possible image.

Take Photos Using the App

Using the secure camera within First Bank’s mobile banking app snap a picture of the front and back of the check. You’ll see prompts on the screen that will help guide you. Make sure to wait for the camera to focus before taking the picture so that numbers and letters are clear.

Deposit multiple checks per day using your mobile app. At First Bank, individuals can deposit up to $5,000 in mobile checks in one day, and business accounts can deposit up to $10,000 per month*.

Deposit Your Checks

When you press deposit, the pictures of your checks are sent to our databases and reviewed. At First Bank, if you deposit your checks before 6 PM on a normal business day, your funds will appear in your account the next day (if approved).

Check Your Email for Verification

First Bank sends an email verification for all mobile check deposit transactions for your records.

3 Tips for Saving Money in Your 20s Saving money in your 20s may seem like an impossible task, but did you know that your 20s is actually prime time to start setting money aside for you future? If you’re wondering how to save money in your 20s, follow these three simple tips for managing your funds and setting yourself up for a financially successful future. 3 Important Money Saving Tips for Young Adults 1. Start an emergency fund. An emergency fund is one of the most important things you can establish in your twenties. Should you experience any financial hardships, such as unemployment, unexpected medical expenses, or an expensive car repair, your emergency fund will be there to cover you. But how much money should you save? That depends on how much you spend each month. Money Under 30 suggests having at least three months of expenses saved up. You can use their Emergency Fund Calculator to get a better idea of how much you should be putting away. 2. Mange your budget. Take a close look at your budget—especially your entertainment budget—to see where you can cut back. Adults in their twenties often spend money on entertainment, like concerts with friends and weekend travel plans, and these areas are often where you can cut back the most. The Penny Hoarder suggests taking charge in your group of friends and making sure your plans are reasonably priced. 3. Pay down your debt. Paying down your loans now will save you money in the future. Forbes recommends focusing on your emergency fund and retirement savings first, then paying off any debt with interest rates over 7%. For interest rates over 7%, you’re likely save more on interest than you would earn by investing that money. Always consult a financial advisor or debt expert before making decisions on consolidation or pay off. Refinance Your Mortgage with These 5 Tips Over time, the mortgage market fluctuates and creates new opportunities for homeowners to revise the terms of their mortgage. This is known as refinancing. When refinanced, a mortgage can include lower interest rates, home equity credit, and a restructured loan duration. Homeowners will refinance for many reasons: to get a cash out, to buy out someone on the title, to consolidate their debt, for a low-rate bridge loan, and more. Test out this Refinance Mortgage Calculator, and then see if the following tips can save you time and money in your search for the perfect home loan. 5 Tips to Refinance Your Mortgage Lock in a Cost-Efficient Rate. Ultimately, it is a good idea to lower your monthly payment and re-structure the length of time it will take to pay off your loan. If you are purely looking for a lower rate, according to the Federal Reserve Board, the interest on the mortgage needs to be 1-2% lower than their current mortgage loan rate. Keep in mind that a lower rate isn’t always possible during a refinance, depending on your reason for doing the new loan. Evaluate the Terms. When it comes to mortgage refinancing, you should always read the fine print. Some lenders may offer lower rates, but with much longer terms. To determine if a loan is worthwhile compared to your current mortgage, multiply what you are currently paying (principle with interest, but not escrow) by the number of months left. Do the same for the refinance option and compare to determine if it is a good fit. Consider the Benefits of a New Type of Mortgage. If you are looking to refinance your mortgage, a great tip is to check out the variety of loan types lenders offer. Each may have advantages and disadvantages, and one may be a better fit for your situation. For example, if your financial assets have grown or changed, you may benefit from switching to an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) or a fixed-rate mortgage (FRM), depending on your unique needs. Don’t forget about property taxes and escrow accounts, which can also significantly impact your monthly payment amount. Shop Around. The financially savvy homeowner is aware of the many options available for mortgage refinancing. Ask a lot of questions. 3 min read
